Spring 2025
From the very beginning, God has always been faithful to surprise me. His providence doesn’t come with a warning label—only an invitation: “Come and see what I will do.” And lately, I’ve been seeing more. And more often.
As I look back on the past four months, the borders of ministry have been steadily expanding. Not in the sense of platform-building (we’ve all seen enough of that), but in the deeper way God opens doors and hearts for gospel connection. From radio interviews to global summits, intimate marriage weekends to large conferences, God is moving—and I’m just grateful to be a small part of it.
Let me take you behind the scenes for just a moment.
Earlier this quarter, I joined the good folks at Moody Radio’s Kurt and Kate Mornings to talk about the Tenacious Tuesday article titled Will You Pass the Test of Praise?—an exploration of how applause, like adversity, can reveal what we truly treasure. It was a fun and meaningful exchange that reminded me how many leaders—guys like me–are quietly wrestling with pride, performance, and the peril of being liked. Kurt and Kate have invited me to join them regularly on their radio show. Pray for me as I return today to speak on a different article from the RDH site.
I also had the privilege of teaching at the 6:4 Global Summit, drawing from the material in Rescuing Ambition. It was such a privilege to teach leaders from eleven countries—including Burundi, Kenya, Ghana, Ethiopia, and Mexico—with the Word and try to answer some important questions about gospel-driven leadership. Over 170 leaders participated (75% pastors), and I left reminded that ambition redeemed by grace remains a compelling vision.
There were more writing opportunities too. I contributed an article for both Desiring God and TGC, and Dane Ortlund agreed to write the foreword for my forthcoming book titled The Claypot Conspiracy: God’s Plan to Use Weakness in Leaders. What a gift Dane is to the church!
Closer to home, ministry to marriages continues to be a priority and joy. I joinedMicah Mathis for an I Still Do Marriage weekend, shared a marriage evening withClint Pressley and the faithful saints at Hickory Grove Bible Church, and led a marriage event at Oakhurst Baptist Church (OBC) in Charlotte. There’s something sacred about standing in front of couples—some newlyweds, some decades in—and saying, “Marriage is about ministry.”
In leading Great Commission Collective, I traveled to Kansas City for the rollout of our Multiplication Kit with our regional leaders. Here’s a pic of the Mentor Manual and Cohort Manual.
This M-Kit is designed to equip pastors and elders in creating multiplication cultures within local churches—the kind multiply disciples, leaders, elders and church planters! The conversations were rich, and the application quite enriching. I also taught at GCC’s Church Planter Training (CPT) and participated in both the GCC Board Retreat and the Strategic Pastors and Wives Retreat (SPWR) with Migué Núñez.
Two weeks ago, I traveled back to the DR to join Miguel in teaching on church planting and to preach in his church on Sunday morning I’m deeply thankful for Miguel’s ministry and the difference his life is making in the lives of so many Latino leaders.
Other highlights from the last few months include: a meeting with Jim Newheiser,an invitation to do a marriage event at Christ Covenant church pastored by Kevin DeYoung, and a remarkable Life on Mission conference with GCC in Calgary. God keeps stretching the borders. My prayer is that He stretches my faith to match.
So what’s next?
Pray. Please. That’s what I need most. Pray that I would continue to lead with humility and joy. Pray that I would honor Christ in all things—especially the quiet ones. As Tim Cooper noted in his fascinating book When Christians Disagree, the tension between Richard Baxter and John Owen offers a helpful caution: “Owen was easily exasperated; Baxter was simply exasperating.” Would you pray that I would be neither?
Subscribe. If you haven’t already, sign up for Tenacious Tuesday—my weekly devotional email sent out every Tuesday to encourage leaders in business, ministry, and the local church. You can do that right on revdaveharvey.com.
Give. If you’ve benefited from the content or want to help me reach more leaders with gospel resources, you can also make a contribution here. Your generosity helps to make this ministry possible.
God is stretching my borders. And I’m praying He does the same for you—not so we can be seen, but so Christ can be magnified.
With gratitude and joy,
Dave
