The Succession Plan: Planting and Strengthening into the Next Generation

Last year, GCC president Dave Harvey submitted, for consideration, a succession plan to the GCC board. The plan included Dave’s recommendation for the board to consider Scott Hollingshead to succeed Dave as president, effective January of 2028.

This past May, after substantial deliberation–including extensive discussions around Scott modifying (but retaining) his role as lead pastor of Doxa Church in Sacramento–the board approved the succession plan. The plan was announced last week at the annual GCC Leaders Conference in Dallas.

While a succession plan for Dave was not something the board initiated or sought, it became clear to the board over time that this was both God’s plan and His timing. The reasons included Dave’s clear vision for a succession process, along with the growing need for more margin as he raises his grandson. Equally compelling was Scott Hollingshead’s availability and genuine passion to eventually step into the role. After numerous interactions with Scott and upon evaluating his suitability, the board became convinced that he possessed the gospel-clarity, wisdom, institutional history, and leadership-gift to lead GCC for many years to come. The elders at Doxa Church wholeheartedly agreed and have expressed their willingness and desire to adjust Scott’s role at Doxa to effectively serve GCC.

Scott will phase into GCC service beginning in the Fall of 2026 and will spend more than a year becoming oriented and trained in an interim role. This will continue through the end of 2027, when he will officially step into his new role as President. This two-year transition fits with Dave’s sense of calling, Scott’s availability due to pre-existing commitments through 2027, and the boards desire for a seamless transition. Beginning 2028, Dave will move into a president-emeritus role within GCC where he will teach, create content, consult, and coach Scott, as well as other leaders inside and outside of GCC.

Please join us as we rejoice over these exciting plans and unite with us to pray that God will make GCC even more fruitful for his glory.
